On the Memorial in Kohima to the British Second Division these words are inscribed:
When you go home Tell them of us and say For your Tomorrow We gave our Today.
As to those warriors of the Indian Army, undying words ascribed to John Masters:
"Past the ruins of the Empire the Japanese tried to build theirs, it took possession of the Empire we had built, in the towering, rising dust clouds India traced the shape of her own future. Twenty races, a dozen religions, a score of languages in these trucks and tanks..."
More, had that scourge not been stopped at Dimapur, Kohima and Imphal, and allowed to invade the Indian sub-continent, the world would certainly not have experienced the total collapse of the Japanese forces in Burma, thus shortening by years the hostilities on the Asian mainland.
Let us give some minutes of thought and prayer to all those brave souls in every theater of war, who sacrificed their own to preserve our lives and future.
